One Fine Day Films - Tom Tykwer establishes film production company
ONE FINE DAY e.V. is a Berlin-based non-profit organisation founded by Marie Steinmann and Tom Tykwer in 2008.
The organisation's aim is to introduce children and young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds in Kenya (Africa) to the imaginary spaces offered by art and artistic exploration.
In October 2008, film director Tom Tykwer ran a film workshop and oversaw the production of a feature film entitled SOUL BOY. Throughout the production, which took place in the Kibera slum, a handful of film professionals worked with a large group of young trainees. The film’s story combines local mythology and modern day problems and tells the rites of passage of a young boy who tries to save his father’s lost soul. In order to do so, he embarks on an odyssey through the Byzantine labyrinth of the ghetto and its inhabitants. The overwhelmingly positive resonance to the filming experience and the enthusiasm of all those involved locally led to foundation of the production company ONE FINE DAY FILMS.
SOUL BOY is set to be completed in Nairobi (Kenya) and Berlin by the end of 2009. Further film projects are in development.
